LinkedIn character counter
Paste your post to see the count live, plus where LinkedIn cuts it off with “see more” and the key limits.
Done here? The hard part is having something to post. RightHandMan.io writes a post for every page you've published.
What is the character counter?
LinkedIn has firm limits, and hitting one mid-sentence at the wrong moment is annoying. This counter shows your character count live as you type, and marks each limit that matters so you know exactly where you stand before you paste anything into LinkedIn.
It runs entirely in your browser. There is no AI and nothing gets sent anywhere. You type or paste, and the numbers update instantly, which makes it quick to trim a post down to the size you actually want.
How to use it
- Type your post directly into the box, or paste a draft you already have.
- Watch the live count update as you write.
- Check your text against the marked limits, then copy it into LinkedIn once you are inside them.
The four limits worth watching
A LinkedIn post caps at 3,000 characters. That is plenty for most posts, but long ones do creep up on it, especially once you add line breaks and a list. The counter shows how much room you have left so a finished thought does not get cut off.
The more important number is the 'see more' cutoff at roughly 210 characters. Anything past that hides behind a link in the feed. The counter marks this point so you can make sure your hook and your main idea sit above the fold where people actually see them.
Two other limits show up for profile work. Your headline maxes out at 220 characters, and your About section at 2,600. The counter flags both, so if you are drafting profile text rather than a post, you can write to the right length the first time instead of getting cut off when you paste.
Who it's for
Writers use it to keep posts tight, and profile editors use it to fit a headline or About section without surprises. It is a small tool that saves a specific frustration, which is writing something good and then discovering it does not fit. It pairs naturally with the kind of ready-made posts RightHandMan produces for company pages from a brand's existing website, since even a well-drafted post is worth a quick length check before it goes live. Frequently asked questions
Does this send my text anywhere?
No. The counter runs entirely in your browser and there is no AI involved. Your text never leaves your device, so you can paste anything in without worry.
Why does the 210 character mark matter so much?
That is roughly where LinkedIn shows the 'see more' link in the feed. Everything after it is hidden until someone clicks, so your hook and main point need to land before that line.
Are emojis and links counted correctly?
Emojis and URLs both count toward the total, and the counter includes them as you type. Keep in mind that a long pasted URL eats into your character budget quickly.
Can I use it for my headline and About too?
Yes. The counter marks the 220 character headline limit and the 2,600 character About limit alongside the post limits, so it works for profile text as well as posts. For formatting that text, see the text formatter.
